Now on to last night’s episode….a recap of Cycle 16!!!  Apparently we will finally get to go to Morocco next week!  Here are my favourite moments from last night’s episode:

ARRIVING AT THE LOFT:  I loved the trickery of having the chosen girls get ‘sent home’ and then Tyra announcing to them that they were home!  When she dropped the cloth to reveal the apartment I particularly got a kick out of the whole gaggle of girls running through the place and screaming with excitement. I’ve decided I’m going to try that at home tonight and see if anyone looks at me funny…I’ll let you know how that goes!

PAPER BAG RUNWAY: Loved the imitation dresses that they fashioned out of paper bags…I would have gone with toilet paper myself…more pliable!  Was anyone surprised by Dominique’s bang on imitation of Miss J and Mr. Jay?   If she had shown that much spunk and personality during her photo shoots, she might have lasted a little bit longer!

BUBBLE RUNWAY CHALLENGE:  I think this was my favourite challenge so far…I don’t think I have ever laughed as hard as when I was watching Ondrei and Dominique repeatedly fall and try to get up without much success.  I have to give Dominique kudos for finally standing up and trying to strike a pose at the end.  If you’re going to fall and get up, do it with attitude!

JACLYN’S 20th BIRTHDAY: So my darling Jaclyn turned 20 while on the show and ‘became a woman’!!!  I can’t imagine what that means to someone as sweet and innocent as she is.  I remember turning 20….it was only last year!  ;)

MONIQUE’S ALLURE, ACCORDING TO HER:  You have to love Monique’s confidence as she talked about how she ‘doesn’t know how not to be sexy’ and how ‘having a booty is just kind of stressful’!  Having my booty is stressful, but not for the same reasons Monique has!  Must be hard to be so beautiful!

KASIA’S PERFECT SKIN:  At the ripe old age of 26, Kasia is the eldest in the competition, but has a perpetual baby face and the most perfect skin ever!  I am totally jealous, but also a good study, so here comes her formula for beauty:
-         Exfoliate
-         Drink lots of water
-         Eye cream
-         Vitamin E
-         Serum
Get it?  Got it? Good!

ALEXANDRIA’S MAD RAPPING SKILLZ:  “I’m not a chump, I’m a champ!!!”  Need we say more?

PHOTOSHOOT WITH THE JAGUAR:  So after seeing this shoot, I suddenly wanted a jaguar, but considering I have other pets, I didn’t want them to be eaten.  I loved how Monique said, “I’m not really a cat person, but it’s not a cat, it’s a J-A-G-U-E-Y-E-R….”

SWEAR JAR:  Jaclyn collected mass amounts of change every time a girl swore, which was often.  According to her, there were a lot of ‘potty mouths’ around.

WHAT KIND OF WALLET?:  Jaclyn spoke with Miss J about wanting to find a man and Miss J asked her what kind of wallet this mystery man should have.  Jaclyn smiled innocently and said ‘a leather one’.  Enough said.

Did you all love the recap?  Are you excited to see who will win?  Here are my predictions for the final rundown:

4th Place – Brittani
3rd Place – Molly
2nd Place – Hannah
1st Place – Alexandria

Do you agree/disagree?  E-mail me at ctement@nationalevent.com and share your thoughts.  In the meantime, let us contemplate the wonder that is America’s Next Top Model and look forward to ANTM Live 2012!!! Don’t miss it!

Until next time, my Glamazons!

Alternative Fashion Week Part Deux...

As with anything in the fashion world, everything started 40 minutes late and the film that we had been clamouring to see, a short piece about the Gaudet Fashion House, was announced to have been postponed till Friday.  Gio Gaudet is a fantastic designer who we met at LG Fashion Week and we were so excited to see what he had to bring to the runway.  We’re not sure why it was pushed back, but either way, Friday goers to alternative fashion week will enjoy what is to come!

What I absolutely loved about F.A.T. was the series of four fashion shows back to back.  Each little tidbit from the designers featured varied looks and happened with very brief lapses in between.  It was great to not have to jostle for a seat after each offering.  Here is a taste of what we saw:

All designs shown by Epoque.

Antlers anyone?  I'm not sure I would wear them, but definitely a bold statement...just don't stand too close!

So ends my time at F.A.T.  It was cool, original and yes, slightly weird.  But what is life without a little spice and something to test our boundaries of what we believe to be fashion and art?  Boring never gets us anywhere…

Speaking of excitement, stay tuned for a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!  Till tomorrow my Glamazons!

Alternative Fashion Anyone?

Good Morning Fashionistas!

I am back from a night at FAT (Fashion. Art. Toronto.)!!!  It was a totally different vibe from LG Fashion Week and a completely different crowd.  Gathered together in the unique space that is 99 Sudbury Street, various rooms opened onto each other and made the gathering intimate and interesting.  The industrial space was transformed into unique pockets of visual and performance art, leading into a main room where the runway shows and screenings of fashion films took place.

Our first foray into the performance art was this piece of installation art by Johannes Zits entitled ‘Pre-Loved Actions’.  Can’t quite tell you what it was about or what we were supposed to take away from it, but it did make we want to go home and fold laundry.

The next one was beautifully placed on a bright orange wall ironically entitled ‘Untitled Wall System’ by Eric Cheung, Oliver Dang, Nicole Bouchard and Jacob JeBailey.  I thought it gave paper snowflakes a whole new meaning!

The last installation piece that I thought was interesting was ‘Soft Response’ by Slavica Panic and David Anderson.  I sort of felt like that would be a great room let out your frustrations in…a whole kind of padded wall concept with soft pillows to break your fall!

When we found some seats (second row seems to be our fated spot at these events) we spent time looking around at the crowd assembled and admired a fine looking fellow in a sparkly sequined blouse, a sassy woman wearing what appeared to be a home made crown and a fantastic woman dressed to the nines in goth chic.  She was kind enough to let me take a picture of her, so without further ado, I present the electrifying Daisy:

Also noteworthy was a dapper fellow I saw named Mike.  He just had such an air about him and was hands down the best dressed man there!

Do you have Textuality?

Hello my Lovelies!
I am back from a wonderful Friday evening at the movie opening of ‘Textuality’!!!  Although I cannot say I had an entire ‘entourage’ with me, I did have my posse of one, my fabulous friend Tracy, who came out on the town with me to hob knob with the film crowd.

Our showing of the movie was packed to the gills and the director, Warren P. Sonoda, along with the writer, Liam Card and producer, Marc Rigaux were there in full force to show their passion for the movie and their appreciation for the eager audience!
Textuality was a great representation of modern day relationships that are defined and sometimes maintained through social media.  It spoke about the irony of ‘staying connected’ without having to stay connected.  Developing emotional ties to someone is difficult to navigate when communicating over Blackberry or cell phone.  How easy is it these days to resort to touching base with others without having to physically ‘talk’ to the other person?  This is the age of faster is better and human to human interaction is becoming less and less necessary when you can reach someone ‘a la minute’.  The story revolved around Breslin, played by Jason Lewis, who after getting dumped at the alter by the love of his life, takes up with three different women at the same time, all who know nothing about the other.  All the while, a very attractive blogger named Simone, played by Carly Pope, juggles three casual relationships, while pining after a married man name Clive, played by Eric McCormack.  The only difference is that Simone’s four suitors all know about the others’ existence.  One fateful day, Breslin hits Simone with his car while she is riding her bike. He scrambles to apologize and tend to her wounds and finds himself drawn in by her magnetism and tries desperately to capture her attention.
Particularly noteworthy was the performance of Liam Card, writer and actor extradordinaire, who provided a great deal of the film’s laughs with his portrayal of Brelin’s womanizing best friend, Michael.  Especially funny was when Michael’s phone rang with musical ring tones representing each of his numerous girlfriends’ nationalities!  Breslin sat in shock and Michael laughed off his dismay by saying it helped him to keep his roster of women straight.  He was a definite highlight for me.

Naturally I was most excited to see Supinder Wraich, whom I met at LG Fashion Week.  Here she is with Tracy and I striking a pose!

Supinder played one of Breslin’s girlfriends, Heather.  She was sensual, feminine, funny and memorable.  I asked Supinder a few questions about her experience filming Textuality:

What do you think of the whole texting phenomenon, do you feel that it has replaced face to face communication?

I think phones replaced face to face conversation a long time ago, but at least when you called someone there was still that bit of human contact. A voice, an undertone, a little extra chatter, "hi, how are you?" with texting, it's down to the bones of what's important immediately. Which is sometimes great because that's all you want, but what's strange is that texting has put a whole lot more pressure on the phone call. Used to be the first phone call was the first point of contact, but nowadays, it's like we miss a step and get really comfortable with someone we don't know too well through texting, and when that first phone call comes around, it's hard to know what to say. It's a strange turn of events. I think what I'm going to start doing is make a rule to call before I text. That's my textiquitte advice, not that you asked...

Can you relate to your character, what did you like most about playing Heather?

I liked how much fun Heather has with her sexuality, there's no embarrassment, no games, she's brave and it's all out in the open. Oppositely, I was pretty scared on set to show that side in front of a bunch of strangers, but I find the older I get, the more I find Heather's playfulness in me.

Heather is very sassy and aware of her feminine prowess, do you think that put her in a position of power in her relationship with Breslin?

I think Heather's the kind of girl who'll take power whenever and however she can get it, and would even delude herself into thinking she's in power when she's not and I don't think she was in the position of power with Breslin.

What was your favourite scene in the movie?

I love the scene when Simone goes to see Dani. It's really interesting what's happening between the two girls at that point, I can't imagine what it'd be like talking to a friend of mine who had unintentionally stolen my boyfriend, while hosting rebound guy in my shower. It's a strange circumstance and I think Carly and Kristin shine in that scene.

What did you enjoy the most about the film making process?

Just learning how films are made.  This is my first movie and I learned a lot from when I was cast, to when we shot, to being on set and doing intimate scenes with someone who I had a TV crush on. And then there's post and the amount of time, patience, and dedication it takes to finally get a movie out to audiences, and even now that Textuality's been released and I just walked a red carpet for my first time, and am doing interviews, I'm still learning. Apparently film making is a never ending process.

Sincere thanks to Supinder for your kindness in granting the interview and spending some time with us!  It was a blast!  To read more about Supinder, visit http://www.swraich.com/. If you see the movie, you have to admire Supinder’s styelicious outfits…GORGEOUS!!!  Go see Textuality http://www.textualitymovie.com/!  You’ll love it!

Tonight Stacey and I will be heading to Alternative Fashion Week in downtown T.O.!!!  Stay tuned for pics and details!  SO excited!

Till next time my Glamazons!

Repeats, Baggy Bottoms and My Entourage…

Welcome to the world of America’s Next Top Model Live 2012!  Yes my lovely fashion mavens, you heard right….in May 2012 an incredible fashion, beauty, modelling and shopping experience is coming to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and I am your inside ticket to the creation of what is sure to be the social event of the year!

For those of you who are already fans of America’s Next Top Model, the fabulous Miss Tyra Banks and all things fashion, this will be the place for you to rest your heels and contemplate the television fixture that is ANTM.  You will surely know all about looking good H2T (Head to Toe), putting on your best SMIZE (Smiling With Your Eyes) and being as FIERCE as you possibly can!  As for the rest of you, jump right in, the water is warm and you do not have to watch the show to be interested in immersing yourself in a wonderful weekend of retail therapy, beauty advice and the Top Model experience!

Good Morning my Striking Sirens!!!

Welcome to another day in the world of America’s Next Top Model Live!  There are so many exciting things happening and I can’t wait to share all of the fantastic details with you in the coming weeks!!!  Like anything good in life, you have to wait just a little bit longer, but I promise you that you will not be disappointed when you hear all about ANTM Live!

So last night’s episode was, how shall I put it?  Very similar if not exactly like last week’s episode!!!  Yes my darlings, we had a repeat!  But not to worry, Morocco should be coming at us in full force next week and then sadly this season of ANTM will come to an end and we will lay in wait until the next enthralling cycle!

Today I thought I would share a little anecdote with you about my recent trip to the mall with my fabulous friend Julie, who is a fantastic shopping partner…we kind of have the same mentality that unless we are totally IN LOVE with something, we are not going to buy it!  So we set out determined to find cute outfits for Spring and we went from store to store trying on this and trying on that.  At one point we both had big armloads of items and tried on one thing after another only to find that nothing fit ‘quite right’ and dresses we thought would look great on us somehow made us look shorter and pants that we thought would be slimming and lovely ended up bunching in all the wrong places or making our bottoms look baggy.  Needless to say we left empty handed!  Have you ever had a shopping frustration like that? I really wanted to find something fabulous and felt a little deflated when I had no luck!  But, like any good fashionista, I will put my heels back on and try again another day!

I had an ulterior motive for my shopping spree, tomorrow night I am attending the movie premiere of ‘Textuality’, a fantastic movie featuring my new friend from fashion week, the beautiful Supinder Wraich! http://www.swraich.com Textuality is the story of two people who attempt to get into a relationship, while exiting the multiple relationships they were each managing through their Blackberries before they met. http://www.textualitymovie.com  Textuality stars Jason Lewis of Sex and the City fame, Carly Pope from the former television series, Popular and Eric McCormack from Will and Grace. Supinder plays Heather, one of the three girlfriends Jason’s character, Breslin, is trying to break up with.  She is a wonderfully warm person and I will hopefully get an interview with her tomorrow!  I am so looking forward to seeing the movie and will come back next week with a full report!

After much reflection and observation, I have decided that anyone of real importance in the beauty, modelling and fashion industry appears to have an entourage.  I realize I have a huge group of friends, but none of them seem to follow me ‘en masse’ and this is a goal I would like to achieve before too long, so anyone who wants to join my inner circle, let me know, I am accepting applications!  Perhaps if I offer some incentives…hmm, free coffee and chocolate Easter eggs for anyone who joins my Pretty Posse!

Till next time my Glamazons!

Go Sees, Garbage and Grumbles…

Hello Glamazons!!!

What do you all think about Jennifer Lopez being named People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman in the world?  Do you agree, disagree?  Do you think of her as a fashion icon?  She definitely has morphed into various looks over the years and I think some are more effective than others.  I recall the P. Diddy phase (what was she thinking?) when she wore a seriously low cut green chiffon Versace gown to the 2000 Grammy Awards.  http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2009/galleries/jlo40/jennifer-lopez-7.jpg It was truly scandalous and put her on the fashion map.  She recognized the value in being able to stun the audience…for good or bad and it was the most talked about couture statement of the season.  Even today, it garners buzz, but now her style, though slightly less revealing, still pushes her to the forefront of the celebrity scene.  Her famous booty (which is insured for $1,000,000) is always the subject of attention and she finds every possible way to show it off. http://oliverwillis.com/livenews/img/jenniferlopez-butt.jpg
I loved her 2010 Oscar Armani Prive gown in white.  It had beautiful flow and architectural detailing to one side and it was all at once elegant and bold.  Take a look! http://0.tqn.com/d/fashion/1/0/g/V/3/97516043_10.jpg

Now on to the fabulousness that was last night’s episode of America’s Next Top Model!  I have to preface this by saying that I am a glamazon in mourning today as my favourite girl got eliminated….read on my model mavens and see who went home.

Last night started off with Brittani apologizing to Alexandria for ‘going about it in the wrong way’ when she expressed her feelings of dislike for her.  Alexandria said that it was unforgivable, but forgave her anyway.  Time will tell if this truce will last….I, for one, have my serious doubts!  I sense more drama on the way!  Kasia talked about how the attitude towards Alexandria has flipped and that everyone is relieved to resolve the issue, but Molly, our resident pessimist, is not having any of it and called everyone dumb for believing in Alexandria’s sudden change.

After elimination, Tyra met up with the girls and talked about the all important portfolio.

ANTM Live Buzz:  Portfolio workshops will be a feature at ANTM Live 2012!!!  Those of you who are aspiring models will be able to receive advice from industry experts as to how to put together an attractive package to market your various looks!

Tyra took all the girls through their pictures so far and showed them how to order them to get the most impact.  She talked about how she booked 25 shows in Paris with only three photos.  In this business, it is about quality, not quantity and a lot of pictures don’t necessarily guarantee you a job.  The close up shot is recommended for the opening of the portfolio and then the closing pic should be something that sparks controversy.  Tyra then brings out a big letter C and hands the girls their portfolios telling them that they each have a letter in there making up the name of their next destination for the final five contestants!  After seeing the ‘C’ Alexandria sports a quizzical look on her face and says, Canada?  Which I love because although they weren’t coming here, America’s Next Top Model Live is, so kudos to Alexandria for making that fine prediction!  J The girls spell out the word Morocco and Tyra informs them that Morocco is one of the most incredible places she has ever been and everyone celebrates the exciting news!

The next day brings the dreaded ‘Go Sees’ where a model can make or break her career on a brief impression.  Kyle Hagler from IMG Models, who will represent the winner of ANTM, informs the girls that they will get four hours, a driver and a map to get to four different Go Sees with the themes of Bombshell, Athletic, Girl Next Door and Couture.  Alexandria is the only one from L.A. and has a huge advantage over everyone else.  Franke B. Jeans is the first stop for all the models, where owner Daniella Clarke is impressed by Alexandria’s knowledge of the brand and her easy going personality (who is this girl?).  She also loved Jaclyn, who she said gave her a toothache because she is so sweet.

At House Casting, the vast majority of the girls had a hard time reading lines and sounding natural.  Poor Jaclyn was asked to say the lines a few times without her Southern accent, which was pretty much impossible.  You can’t take the Southern belle out of her!

Another interesting Go See happened when Molly showed up to the athletic casting without proper clothing, but she improvised and posed in her booty shorts and rolled up her top.  Good thinking on her part…if it were me, I may not have been ready to show my flowery undies!!!  Preparedness is the key and being ready for anything is the theme of the day!

Coming from a small town where she is able to gage where she is by the ‘Wal-Mart and Bush’s Chicken’, Jaclyn had the hardest time navigating the busy LA streets and threw in the towel early along with Brittani.  They chose to show up at the last Go See at Lana Marks, handbag designer to the stars, an hour before the end of casting.  A poor decision at this stage in the game when getting to those appointments means everything.  By the end of the four hours, most of the girls had made it to at least three castings and five of them counted down to the end hoping that Alexandria wouldn’t make it back on time.  She naturally sailed in thirty seconds before the clock ran out and managed to wow Lana Marks and win a 100 country ad campaign to promote her handbags.  To Molly’s disappointment, Alexandria also got an exact replica of the Cleopatra clutch Angelina Jolie sported to an awards show. Molly was criticized heavily this episode for showing a bad attitude when at castings.  She was so upset that Alexandria won,  I was waiting for steam to start coming out of her ears!

Tyra Mail tells the girls that ‘a modelling career is a terrible thing to waste’ and what do you know, the next day starts off in a landfill!  Mr. Jay and Nigel Barker let the girls know that they will be modelling eco-friendly couture specifically made for them by designer Michael Cinco.  Michael comes out and tells them that the dresses are all made from recycled materials, including broken mirror.  There are some great safety pin designs and I have to say that the dresses were stunning and distinctive!  I loved them all!  Would I wear one to the local supermarket?  Probably not, but if I had the right occasion and were about 6 inches taller, I would totally rock one of those gowns!  Maybe I need a ladder to stand on like the models did!

My favourite line was when Jaclyn came out looking fierce and said, ‘I’m not no princess anymore!’  She had a hard time posing her face in a flattering position but tried her best to impress.  Mr. Jay got pooped on twice during the day long shoot, but managed to save one of the dresses from being ruined.  Poor guy, he still looked dashing against the garbage though!  Other stand outs included Alexandria who was just on fire during her turn in front of the lens and Brittani who lay right down in the muck to get a good shot.  Molly looked stunning and was hitting all the right moves, but in between shots, her model readiness dropped and she was complaining about wanting to kill the plentiful seagulls with a BB gun!  Nigel gave her a look that said he would have liked to do the same to her as she went on and on about the poor conditions and smelly surroundings.

At elimination, Tyra naturally made a wardrobe change when the bow at her neck just would not co-operate.  I’ll keep a running count and let you know how many changes happen before cycle end!  The girls all got their critiques and Alexandria was the big winner all around.  She impressed at the Go Sees, booked every one of the jobs and took the best picture at the landfill.  I loved judge Andre Leon Talley’s assessment that ‘the birds, the poop and the funk did not take over’ the shot.  Alexandria amazed and sent a subtle message with a large No. 1 emblazoned on her shirt! Gotta LOVE it!

Brittani and Tyra kissed and made up and Brittani had one of the best shots this week.  The bottom two ended up being Jaclyn, for her lack of ability to follow through on all the Go Sees and Molly, for her complaining and negative attitude.  Sadly my lovely Jaclyn got sent home and as she left she expressed her gratefulness for the opportunity and said that ‘anyone looking for a tall brunette with a loud, squeaky phone voice’ should give her a call.  I adored her for her cute look, her positive attitude and her sweet personality, but alas, being a great person is not enough to be a terrific model.

Dare I say who my next pick is?  I am totally feeling Kasia and her ‘real girl’ attitude.  She talked about how she worked hard for her body and wants people to know that it is okay to be different.  I think she is a total bombshell, but she has to learn to work her face and body position for the camera.  Strangely enough, this week I feel converted towards the once hated Alexandria as one of my top picks.  Her new shift in attitude, whatever the reason, makes her much more likable.  We’ll see how Molly fares next week with the bottom two scare and hope that she changes for the better.

Next week, Morocco!!!  Maybe I’ll watch the episode while sitting on the floor and eating with my hands….anyone want to join me?

Till next time my Glamazons!

CATFIGHTS, TEARS and MISS J gets murdered?

America’s Next Top Model – Episode 1607

This week’s ANTM brings a fantastic array of in-fighting, jealousy and bloodshed!  Who doesn’t love a good mix of DRAMA?  Coming off of last week’s win for Brittani, we start off the episode by discussing our favourite model who everyone loves to hate, Alexandria.  It seems that although most of the girls have a problem with her, it is definitely Brittani who spearheads the anti Alex tirade and desperately wants her off the show.  Alexandria is not having any of it and claims that any negativity that comes her way simply ‘adds more fuel for [her] fire’.  No doubt the continuation of an epic battle.

The first challenge brings us to Smashbox Studios where we meet our handsome judge extradordinare, Nigel Barker.  He explains that the girls will be doing a photo shoot for the Ford Warriors in Pink (www.ford.com/warriorsinpink) campaign supporting the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.  Nigel then informs the girls that he will be shooting their photos himself!  Many of the girls spoke about how breast cancer has touched the lives of those they love and they all seemed excited to be able to deliver a positive message through modelling.  The girls were given the opportunity to choose their own hair, make-up, styling and props for the shoot and each one was assigned a symbol to represent in their pictures.

Jaclyn, our cute Southern belle was up first and represented Courage.  She spoke about her aunt who battled breast cancer and sported some red boxing gloves, while trying to show her fiercest face.  Can I just say I LOVE Jaclyn’s sweetness, she is so genuine and kind and seems to shy away from the drama, PLUS she is really coming out of her modelling shell and showing some range in her poses.

Other noteworthy appearances came from Brittani, who mistakenly told Nigel she doesn’t think when she looks at the camera and had a hard time emoting anything…although maybe it was the bonsai tree she was holding that didn’t give her any inspiration.  The tree just didn’t do it for me…she was supposed to represent the Dove….anyone think holding an actual dove would have been a great alternative?

Hannah had a hard turn in front of the lense with her ribbon dancing, as Nigel put it, she was so concentrated on spinning the ribbon, that she forgot to model!

Alexandria ended the photo shoot with her tree of love interpretation, which of course, was her, pretending to be a tree!  To everyone’s dismay (insert the numerous amounts of eye rolling here), Alexandria won the challenge and a 2012 Ford Focus!  Alex was, of course, thrilled to be able to prove to everyone that she deserves to be in this competition and really felt good about winning.  All of this was marred by Brittani bad mouthing Alexandria within earshot and starting a shouting match with herself while Alexandria surprisingly kept her cool.  Cut to a shot of Nigel looking none too impressed as the drama rages on!  You gotta love it!

The next morning brings an excited Miss J into the apartment to wake the girls up and take them to Universal Studios where they were taken on an exclusive tour.  As the girls pulled up to the Bate’s Motel we see Miss J get out of the tour bus only to be attacked and killed by none other than Mr. Jay himself dressed as an old woman!  Gotta say he rocks it much better as a man!

After the bloodshed, the girls are escorted to another area where Mr. Jay asks them how crazy they are for fashion?  He introduces Eric Daman, who is the celebrity stylist for Gossip Girl and brilliantly dresses the beautiful and fabulous.  He tells them that he will choose clothing and accessories that will help to shape them into who they are supposed to be representing in the shoot.

I loved Mr. Jay’s assessment of Hannah being a ‘hot mess’ because it took multiple shots for her to get a good pic.  Jaclyn was by far my favourite with her crazy for make-up pose, she looked completely unlike herself….a little obsessed and slightly scary, which made for a fantastic photo!  Mikaela had the hardest time showing she was crazy for sales and went from one awkward pose to another without much success.

Pre-elimination is one of my favourite points in the show because there is always something amusing about watching the unflappable Tyra in casual mode joking around before the girls come in.  Today found Tyra adjusting the ruching (decorative edges of gathered, pleated, or frilled fabric – as if you didn’t know!) on her white top in an effort to make her ‘girls’ look even.  After a few futile attempts, you see a cut to elimination where she is wearing a whole other outfit!  Ah, the life of a diva….I am seriously thinking about always having an ‘emergency outfit’ on hand for just that kind of occasion!

Elimination time brings us to the fallout of Brittani’s tirade as Nigel schools her for acting inappropriately in front of a client.  Brittani starts to cry and says that she is ‘mad at herself for allowing Alex to do that to her’, showing her lack of personal accountability for her actions.  As frustrating as Alexandria’s behaviour has been in the past, Brittani showed unprofessionalism and lack of judgment.  Tyra is adamant that she wants Brittani gone, but gets out voted by the panel and instead Mikaela gets sent home for her weak photo.  Mikaela takes the elimination well and acknowledges her own shortcomings as a model and what she needs to work on to become better at her job.  You gotta love Tyra for saying it like it is and letting Brittani know that what she did is not tolerated and she is on warning for next time around.

I for one look forward to next week and seeing what comes next in the world of ANTM!!!  What are your thoughts?  Did the right girl go home?  What is your take on the Brittani and Alexandria fiasco? E-mail me at ctement@nationalevent.com and share your view of the ANTM world!

Till next time Glamazons!

FASHION BABY, FASHION!!!

Armed with my little black dress (an essential for every gal’s wardrobe), Stacey and I arrived at LG Fashion Week with high expectations.  Looking around, we took note that people in fashion, interested in fashion, or somewhat fashionable, come in all forms.  We saw the woman with the floppy hat and dark sunglasses who clearly thought she was outside.  We stared in awe at the bold woman wearing pink tights, a green skirt and yellow top and wondered if our basic black was too tame.  We saw high heels of every height and clearly determined that if a woman was already 6’3”, her 5” heels served no other purpose than to make little old 5’3” me feel incredibly short.  There was the man in the black leather skirt who obviously just walked off the set of Braveheart and then there was Stacey and I, somewhere in between the extravagantly dressed and the people who clearly got dressed in the dark.  So, you may ask, how was my first experience at Toronto Fashion Week?  Nothing short of fascinating and fabulous!

We saw such designers as Denis Gagnon, Shan, Label, Korhani Rugs, Pink Tartan, Lovas and Attitude Jay Manuel.  From my overall impressions I gleaned the following:
-         black is the new black
-         knee high boots are a must
-         feathers and fur are back with a vengeance
-         sign up for the army
-         if you don’t have a backpack with at least four buckles, you are seriously missing something
-         clothes with oddly placed openings are very avant garde, so always sport some underwear
-         you must, and I mean this with absolute sincerity, MUST develop a pretty pout

For those of you who don’t know, fashion is always fashionably late and waiting for something to happen is somewhat of a sport. These fashion shows have taken months of planning, design and orchestration and within minutes it is over…like a breeze of beauty that dissipates too soon.  It is the perfect tease…just as things get exciting and you are clamouring for more, the last dress has crossed the runway and you are left with only the memories of what you have just witnessed.  Stacey and I definitely had some fave collections that got our style sense in gear, but to keep it short and sweet, here are the top five outfits that we LOVED!

NUMBER 5 – This gorgeous MICALLA over the shoulder crystal shawl just took our breath away.  Get ready to sparkle your way through the night!

NUMBER 4 – Check out this adorable flirty dress by LOVAS!  We adored the varied shades of purple!
NUMBER 3 – Jay Manuel’s fabulous SEARS line, ATTITUDE offered this pleated skirt with fitted jacket and stripe detailing, much to our delight!

NUMBER 2 – DUY made this stunning gown with cap sleeves and an intricate peek-a-boo top, SO gorgeous!

NUMBER 1 – LOVAS is tied for 1st place!  We loved both these gowns and just couldn’t choose!  Designer Wesley Badanjak had us captivated with the incredible movement in both these dresses!  We want one of each!

ATTITUDE JAY MANUEL:
Let us take a moment to acknowledge and respect the fashion god that is Jay Manuel.  You could feel the anticipation in the air as the lights dimmed and we were treated to a mini-movie about Jay and his fashion empire.  The music started pumping and a fantastic picture of Jay was revealed as the backdrop for the excitement to come.  Fitted jackets, bold stripes, pleated skirts, riding jackets and cap sleeved dresses sailed by with final additions of the ever popular bow and wool berets worn to one side.  Colours of every shade including bold turquoise, purples, blues and various pinks were revealed in everything from business casual looks to understated elegance.  The Attitude collection was a true reflection of everything Jay and it felt sleek and stylish while being affordable and made for every woman.  Judging by the enthusiastic reception, I would say that Jay Manuel is everything we hoped for in a fashion designer.  http://www.lgfashionweek.ca/Designer.aspx?id=188

So ends my foray into LG Toronto Fashion Week.  I was enthralled and dazzled and adored every single minute of my time dwelling in all things lovely.  I look forward to expanding my wardrobe to include new and exciting combinations previously un-thought of! I would love to hear from you about your fashion savvy or fashion disasters.  Next week I will start reviewing the new episode of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 16 and give you my picks for who I think will win!

Stay you and stay in style!

Until next time my Glamazons!
