Bathtub Mayhem, Motorcycle Mavens and Getting Out of a Pickle!

Hello Faithful ANTM fans!

This week the models lament Bre’s elimination and the girls talk about how without Bre around to protect Bianca, she really does not have anyone backing her in the house.  Alexandria talks about how tough it was being in the bottom two and seeing Bre go home.  She worries about how she is portrayed and wants to stay in the competition.
Bianca is upset that Dominique won the Coco Rocha challenge and says that now more than ever she knows she is alone.  She calls the rest of the girls hyenas who are all after her. The drama starts early as Alexandria and Bianca fight about who is supposed to have the shower next and Bianca brushes her off and tells Alexandria to ‘call her when she becomes an All-Star’!!   Who doesn’t love a good drag out cat fight?  Tyra mail arrives and says if it ‘doesn’t make dollars, it doesn’t make sense.’
The next day Nigel Barker greets the girls on the rooftop of the Roosevelt hotel.  He tells the contestants they will all be recreating something that made Elizabeth Taylor’s brand over 60 million dollars in the past year – their very own signature fragrance!!  He tells the girls they will  be designing their own scent with the founder and creative director of Hatch Beauty,  Ben Bennett.  Each girl gets to choose three scents they can blend together to call their own.  Lisa calls her scent ‘Neon’ and says it is reminiscent of the beach, California love and fun.  Laura calls her scent ‘Love’ and says it is sassy and sexy.  Dominique names her perfume ‘Survivor’, Shannon’s is ‘Smitten’, Angelea names her brand after herself and Allison chooses the name ‘Honey Blood’, playing to her fascination with all things related to hemoglobin!  She really is creepy cool, with her big wide eyes and strange mannerisms.  Alexandria annoys the girls with how long she takes to formulate her mixture of scents and clearly breeds impatience in the others.  Bianca says that the sun just rolls and sets while Alexandria makes her choice and the girls applaud when she is finally done making her ‘Diamondatrix’ perfume.
Nigel tells the girls that they will be launching their fragrance to their fans and to the public that night while modelling in bathtubs full of scented water.  He tells them that the girl with the highest fan rating will be safe from elimination.
Bianca is furious that they have to model in a bathtub and says that Tyra would never do something like that to sell perfume.  She says a lady would not conduct herself in this way and states that she wants to be a model and not a gimmick.  Bianca talks about how she knows the business and what comes with it and will never get respect if she gives in to doing something she doesn’t believe in.
Lisa talks about how Bianca is wrong and you have to pay your dues and do what is asked of you in order to make it big.
At the hotel there is a red carpet and lots of fans who want their autographs.   Ava, who won cycle 3 hosts the red carpet and interviews the girls about why their fragrance sets them apart.   The girls then get wet and try to sell their brand of perfume by talking with fans, letting them try their scent and promoting their personalities.  Nigel tries hard to help the girls embrace the challenge and tells Kayla to get in the tub.  She obliges and tries her best to sell her brand but comes up short.  Laura does a great job being friendly and engaging and Lisa kills it with her over the top personality and everyone gravitates towards her.  Nigel says that whether you like Lisa or not, she has star power and is able to get lots of attention.  People have a hard time relating to Allison’s ‘Honey Blood’ name and it comes across as not being a marketable brand.
Bianca thinks Lisa is making too much of a spectacle and refuses to get into the bathtub.  She stands beside her tub the entire night despite Nigel encouraging her to get into the challenge and do what is asked of her.  When Nigel visits Shannon, he demonstrates how she can be more of a risk taker by jumping right into her tub and getting completely soaked!
Nigel tells the girls that the winner of the All Star cycle will be the face of a new America’s Next Top Model fragrance!  Ava announces that the most sellable and marketable girl is Lisa!  She is thrilled to have won and be safe from elimination.
Bianca says that if she had the challenge to do all over again, she wouldn’t change anything – except her shoes.
The next day Mr. Jay tells the girls they will be going for a ride.  Cue motorcycle dude driving in on a cool bike!  He looks a little rough around the edges and is clearly an authentic biker.  Mr. Jay tells the girls that they will be riding all over Hollywood on the back of the bike and re-creating a reality star persona, namely Snooki from Jersey Shore or Nene Leakes from the Real Housewives of Atlanta.
The Snooki look-a-likes are Shannon, Kayla, Allison and Bianca.  Shannon says she wants to go in and show personality, but has never watched the show and isn’t sure how to portray Snooki.    Mr. Jay says Kayla is too distracted by the passersby and not sure of herself.   Allison does well and Dominique takes a lot of risks as Snooki. Some of the risks work and some don’t, but she earns the respect of the photographer for trying.  Bianca wants to use pickles in her shoot because they are Snooki’s favourite food.  Shannon asks for one pickle to use in her shoot and Bianca says no.  She says that she is not being b@#$%^, just competitive.  Mr. Jay is not impressed with her use of the pickle and says it is too phallic and takes it away from Bianca mid-shoot!
The Nene look-a-likes are Laura, Angelea, Lisa and Alexandria.  Laura tries to show attitude, Angelea comes out with a can-do attitude and totally embodies Nene, while Lisa has no idea who Nene is and seeks advice from her arch rival Bianca, who is very familiar with reality tv.  Bianca can’t believe how many girls don’t watch television and feels they should keep abreast of what is popular in entertainment.  Lisa is hilarious and bang on with her attitude as Nene.  Alexandria tries too hard and uses a finger wave as her ‘Nene’ signature, but it doesn’t impress Mr. Jay.
Before elimination all the girls speculate that two girls will go home this week.  Bianca is still talking bathtubs and says she is ready to argue her point when the judges ask why she didn’t get in.  She says Kanye West would never get in a tub and feels very justified in her point of view.
At elimination we see Kathy Griffin telling the girls that Tyra was fired because she doesn’t ‘have it’ and she is taking her place.  Tyra comes in and puts Kathy in her place as a guest judge.  Tyra tells the girls that Kathy has a built in brand for herself, has a huge personality and is the only comedian to have four television specials in one year.
Laura is first up and her picture is quite fabulous.  She has lots of attitude and sells it well.  Angelea is next and Tyra tells her that she has high cheekbones that ‘cut the air’ and she loves her ‘smizing’ into the horizon.  Kathy says that models should look more wasted in photo shoots!  She is hilarious and brings an interesting perspective to judge’s panel.  Alexandria’s finger wave makes it look like she is about to start a girl fight and gets mixed reviews.  Nigel thinks she takes it too far but Tyra and André love the attitude.  Lisa’s shot really shows her bone structure and Tyra says she photographs really well.  She also reminds her that she cannot be sent home because of winning the challenge and Lisa takes a moment to say ‘Good luck hussies’ to the other girls.  Kayla doesn’t embody Snooki and Bianca doesn’t fare much better as Kathy tells her she looks kind of passed out on top of the biker.  Shannon’s personality does not come through in her photo and Tyra says that after deliberation they will tell the girls who is not going to be in their motorcycle club anymore.
Lisa's Winning Shot
Tyra announces Lisa as the winner of this challenge followed closely by Angelea, Laura and Alexandria.  Shannon, Kayla and Bianca are all in jeopardy as Tyra tells the girls that tonight two of the contestants will go home.  Tyra tells Shannon that she is beautiful and has an amazing, strong personality but needs to stand out more.  She tells Kayla that she seems to be a watered down version of her former self and tells Bianca that she is so strong and modellesque, but the judges feel she is not coachable.  Tyra announces that Shannon is safe and Kayla and Bianca are sent packing.
Tyra gets a little emotional saying goodbye to the girls.  Kayla says she has learned a lot and is very proud of herself and wouldn’t change anything.  Bianca says she will continue to be herself, that it sucks to lose but that is the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.  Next week’s preview shows the girls getting to star in their own music video…but can any of them sing?  Stay tuned to find out!

Fashionistas for a Fashionable Cause…

Good Day Ravishing Readers!

Every fashionista knows that the perfect outfit can make you feel fantastic!  But what if you couldn’t afford something nice to wear for a job interview, or to go to school, or to go to the prom?  All across the GTA, there are thousands and thousands of people who struggle every day with issues of poverty, abuse, lack of employment and these challenges are compounded with the fact that they don’t have access to the basic necessities of life.  At ANTM Live, it is important to us to support a worthwhile cause while giving visitors a fantastic weekend of beauty, fashion and shopping.  For our inaugural show we are thrilled to announce Windfall Basics as our Official Charity Partner!

I recently sat down with Windfall’s executive director, Helen Harakas, to talk about Windfall, the services they offer and their relationship with ANTM Live.
Windfall Executive Director, Helen Harakas
How did Windfall start?
Windfall was started by Ina Andre and Joan Clayton, the two women who founded Second Harvest, a charitable food program that provides food to local social service agencies. One day when they were dropping off donations, they realized that many of the clients they served did not have access to new clothing.  Many of the donations they received were old and damaged items and not wearable. The two philanthropic and energetic women knew that they had to do something to help and in 1991, they delivered their first bag of new clothing and consequently incorporated Windfall as a charity in 1992. Today, Windfall provides over $28 million worth of brand-new items to those in need.

What programs do you have?
Windfall Basics provides clothing and basic-needs items to those in need.  We source goods from manufacturers, retailers and distributers.  Where most of this merchandise would have gone to landfills, we are redirecting these new items to clients in women’s shelters, job training programs, centers for immigrants, men’s shelters, group homes and new mother programs. We also provide on-site job-training placements and workshops for hundreds of people annually.
How has Windfall changed people’s lives?
If people do not have their basic needs met, it is very hard for them to move forward in their lives. Without such essentials as a warm jacket, shoes, weather-appropriate clothing or even a backpack, it is challenging for anyone to be able to establish themselves and feel confident enough to accomplish their goals.  Windfall’s services help people to improve their self-esteem and ensure that they do not have to worry about the things that some of us take for granted.  It is amazing to see the reactions of people receiving these new items when all they have ever worn is old and ragged clothing.
Tell us about your partnership with ANTM Live.
Windfall’s Programs have recently become financially sustainable as we were approved for on-going funding by the Ministry of Community and Social Services.  We are fortunate to have great donors and now our goal is to grow the programs and make sure that our model expands across other communities within the next few years.

We love utilizing the avenue of America’s Next Top Model Live to let the public, our clients and potential donors know who we are and what we do.  We are so excited to align with a great brand like ANTM and see a terrific fit from a fashion perspective.   We are thrilled to be selected as the charity of choice and can’t wait to be able to share Windfall’s great work with the visitors to the show.  We are particularly looking forward to bringing out dresses and gowns from our new social purpose enterprise store, Windfall Brides so young women can purchase brand-new designer wedding gowns, cocktail dresses and evening wear at amazing discounted prices!  All proceeds go toward sustaining Windfall’s programs. And the pieces we have are simply gorgeous!  Come and see us at ANTM Live!

Thank you to Helen for taking the time to speak with us! In meeting the incredible team at Windfall, not only do we see the effectiveness of the services they provide to over 100 local charities, but their organization is run by fabulous fashionistas with big hearts!  Look out for news about the Windfall Celebrity Date Auction and get ready to bid for a date with your favourite star at ANTM Live!

Ravishing Rugs!!

Hello Dazzling Darlings!

Last night was absolutely one of my favourite shows at LG Fashion Week.  KORHANI Home puts on a total spectacle and leaves the audience always wanting more!

KORHANI Home Creative Director, Kristen Korhani

KORHANI Home Creative Director, Kristen Korhani has incredible vision and a keen sense of design.  She and her team worked diligently to put on a fantasy accented with different themes ranging from middle eastern safari, to punk rock, to a simply decadent Alice In Wonderland theme.

Kristen clearly outdid herself with this offering and I can honestly say that a Korhani Rug is a rug worth wearing!  I am amazed at the tailoring and the incredible imagination that goes into putting together a show of this caliber.  I always love seeing innovation in action and it seems there is no limit to Kristen's colourful perspective and desire to create something wonderful and unexpected.

Make sure to visit their website http://korhani.com to see the visionary floor décor that should be a staple in every fashionista’s home!

LG Fashion Fix!!!

Hello Ravishing Readers!

It seems only yesterday that we were at LG Fashion Week seeing the Fall/Winter Collections and here we are again looking at the Spring/Summer offerings of our homegrown talent!

Our own Special K,  ANTM Live Account Manager, Valdie

Me and ANTM Live Show Manager Stacey Evans

The warmth inside the Fashion Week tents combined with bright and vibrant colours from many of the collections almost convinced me that the cold weather was just my imagination!
Two gorgeous Fasionistas!
We saw incredible shows including Joeffer Caoc, Michi, Tosca Delfino and the Mercedes-Benz Start Up show, which featured up and coming Canadian designers.
The Joeffer Caoc Collection

We had a fantastic time eyeing the fabulous and fashionable, ranging from the veteran, Jeanne Beker to Bustle’s Shawn Hewson and the always gorgeous home reno hosts, Colin and Justin.
One of our favourite collections from the Fall/Winter fashion week, LOVAS, put on a spectacular show again with some tailored dresses, natural flow and innovative colour blocking.  Take a look at these too gorgeous dresses that demanded our attention:
The LOVAS Collection

Naturally we were most curious to see the Sear’s ATTITUDE line by Jay Manuel and he definitely did not disappoint his masses of fans.

ATTITUDE by Jay Manuel

Jay’s show was chalk full of breezy fabrics, stunning prints and luminescent hues that couldn’t help but lift your spirits on a cloudy day.  In a mass of baby powder, gorgeous pieces made their way down the runway accessorized with fedoras and head scarves galore.

Everything felt fluid and seemed to complement the female form very well.  Jay clearly knows his audience and his entire collection was met with ‘oohs and ahs’ as the models sported very current and wearable looks for the everyday woman.

If the crowds were any indication, it was pretty obvious to this fashionista that his brand is stronger than ever and bound to even greater success as fashion weeks go by.

HARNESSING YOUR QI…

Hello Ravishing Readers!
Today I am pleased to profile one of our fantastic ANTM Live exhibitors, the OMANI CLINIC www.omaniclinic.com.  Renowned Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner, Dr. Martin Siu, recently invited ANTM Live to join him at the opening of his new clinic in Yorkville.  He is bringing his knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine and state-of-the-art western technology together to provide innovative health & beauty treatments during ANTM Live 2012.
Dr. Martin Siu
At the opening, I had the pleasure of hearing about Dr. Siu’s perspective on maintaining ourselves from the inside out and harnessing our Qi (pron. chee), or internal energy.  You can tell from speaking with him that he truly believes in helping people feel better and works diligently to significantly improve the lives of his clients through his expertise.  Dr. Siu works closely with his son, Herman Siu, and both of them practice Auricular Medicine.

Herman Siu, me and Dr. Martin Siu

One of the most interesting and innovative treatments is called Cosmetic Acupuncture. This is a chosen form of personal beauty care for many celebrities and the OMANI CLINIC is excited to be able to provide this efficient and effective treatment that helps maintain a youthful appearance.  Better yet, there are no side effects, down time or medical risks involved.   It is also great for removing fine lines and wrinkles, treating acne scars, giving clients an instant facelift, revitalizing skin, as well as stimulating collagen production and increasing blood circulation and elasticity. All done using either the traditional fine acupuncture needles or cold laser treatments.
